The 2020 Copa Libertadores restarts this week with Matchday 3. When the schedule was originally drawn up for the competition, we would be preparing for the semifinals right now. However, the coronavirus pandemic has pushed everything back. The remainder of the group stage will be played this week, Sept. 22-24, Sept. 29-October 1, and October 20-22. The knockout stages will be played over two legs and will start in late November. The final will be at the Maracanã in Rio in January 2021. Concacaf to Postpone Start of Qualifiers to March 2021

by Bart Keeler Concacaf was set to kick off a new format in October with its first window of Qualifiers for the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2020. Today, it announced that the first matches in the cycle will be postponed due to the novel coronavirus pandemic. The Concacaf Qualifiers for the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 will not start as scheduled in October or November due to concerns of the COVID-19 virus that is still rampant in Central America and the Caribbean. The first round of matches will be pushed back two windows, until March 2021. Concacaf Announces New Format, First-Ever Draw for 2021 Gold Cup

(photo credit: Concacaf) by Bart Keeler Several changes are coming for the 2021 Concacaf Gold Cup. For starters, the tournament will increase from 12 to 16 teams. Four of those additional teams will be determined by a preliminary round before the main group stage of the tournament. The 16th team is AFC Asian Cup Champion Qatar. The knockout round will remain the same, with eight teams qualifying. Concacaf is touting that for the first time ever, will conduct a live draw to determine the preliminary and group phases.
