Travel prevented me from making the biscuits & gravy yesterday, my apologies. I'll try to make up for it this morning...
Atlanta United completed their preseason schedule with a 0-0 draw in Guadalajara against Leones Negros on Tuesday night. They lost a slightly unexpected penalty shootout after the match, but were gifted a trophy anyway as appreciation for the trip and participating in the celebration of the 60th Anniversary of the Estadio Jalisco.
Matheus Rossetto and Jake Mulraney were unavailable for the match as they get their visa paperwork processed. Frank de Boer cast some doubt on their availability for Tuesday's match in Honduras against Motagua in the Concacaf Champions League opener during an interview on SiriusXM FC's CounterAttack show yesterday afternoon. Fingers crossed for some quick processing to occur, this has been an issue for a number of clubs during this offseason.
Manuel Castro will be joining Atlanta on loan for six months from Argentina's Estudiantes. The Uruguayan winger scored 11 goals with 6 assists in 2018 with Wanderers in Montevideo before moving to the Argentine league. Atlanta does have an option to extend the loan for the full season.
Some morning reading:
* Sam Stejskal with a great piece at The Athletic about who NYCFC is and what they aspire to be.
* LAFC was not planning on trading Walker Zimmerman.
Song of the Day:
Some good choices today (Peter Gabriel, Peter Hook, Henry Rollins all celebrating birthdays), but I'm picking Robbie Williams. A pop star who never made it big in the USA, but is still massive in many parts of the world. A bunch of great songs to choose from, but this is always my pick from his catalog:
