August 4 in Atlanta soccer history

Games:

  • 1982: The Georgia Generals defeated the Nashville Diamonds 3-1 in an exhibition American Soccer League match in Kingsport, Tennessee at J. Fred Johnson Stadium. The match was a money-maker for the Generals, to the tune of $4,000 according to the Kingsport News-Times, and drew around 5,000 fans. Kevin Fouser, Jose Neto, and Sonny Askew scored for the Generals while the money made likely had a hand in keeping the club alive for the remainder of the season.
