The final Georgia Call-Up of the season shines a spotlight on a player who embodies resilience, explosiveness, and joy both on and off the field. As they prepare for the 5A state championship game this week, Greenbrier senior Aaliyah Silver has proven to be one of the Wolfpack’s most dangerous attacking threats. She is a player capable of changing a match in an instant with her pace, creativity, and relentless energy. From overcoming injury setbacks to balancing three sports year-round, Silver’s journey reflects the mentality and work ethic that have helped define Greenbrier’s season.

Greenbrier will face Chamblee in the GHSA 5A Girls Soccer Championship on Wednesday at 5:00 p.m. (join Jason Longshore and me on the call on the NFHS Network), SDH caught up with Silver and Greenbrier head coach Robert Husted to talk about her growth as a player, the impact she has on the program, and the personality behind the performances. Whether it’s her competitive edge on the field, her leadership through adversity, or the infectious positivity teammates rally around, Silver has left a lasting mark on Greenbrier soccer as her high school career enters playoff mode.

Aaliyah Silver Q&A:

Q: Who is a player you model your game after and why?

A: I model my game after Neymar because of his creativity, confidence, and skill on the ball.

Q: Who inspires you the most and why?

A: The person who inspires me the most is my mom because she always supports me, motivates me to work hard, and encourages me to never give up even during difficult times.

Q: What’s one thing people don’t realize about your sport?

A: One thing people may not realize about soccer is that its largely a mental game.

Q: Earliest soccer memory?

A: One of my earliest memories is being called a scoring machine

Q: How would your teammates describe you?

A: My teammates would probably describe me as hardworking, competitive, funny, and someone who brings energy to the team.

Q: How has been balancing being a student athlete?

A: Balancing being a student athlete has definitely been challenging at times, but it has taught me time management, discipline, and how to stay focused on my goals.

Q: Favorite memory with your teammates?

A: My favorite memory with my teammates is when we had a dance competition at team dinner at my teammates house.

Q: Where do you see yourself in five years?

A: In 5 years I see myself growing as a person and inspiring younger athletes and kids.

Greenbrier High School Girls Varsity Soccer Coach, Robert Husted Q&A:

Q: How would you describe Aaliyah in one word?

A: Explosive. Aaliyah is a player that can make anything happen with the ball on her foot. She is quick, powerful and has a knack for getting through traffic to create chances. Anytime she touches the ball you expect something to happen, and when it does it is lightning quick!

Q: What has it been like to watch her develop as a player and a person during your time?

A: It has been an incredible honor to watch her grow and develop. As a freshman, her athleticism was there and apparent. Watching her skill develop to match her athleticism has been such a blessing. She s a 3 sport athlete, splitting her time between Flag Football, Basketball, and Soccer doesn’t leave her much time to hone her skill on the pitch. To see that skill develop at such a high level that it is now speaks so strongly to her work ethic and overall drive. Beyond that, I am beyond proud of how much she has grown as a teammate, leader, and woman. She missed a full year last year due to injury, which was mentally devastating. She didn’t let it stop her and her leadership drove the team even from the sideline. To see her come back this year with a passion and drive has been such a true honor to watch.

Q: How would you describe Aaliyah as a player?

A: She is the player that every coach loves because the only worry you have about her is staying healthy. She is so active, so disruptive, and so fast, it forces other teams to pay special attention to her at all times. She is so tenacious and creates so much chaos for a back line, they can’t ever let their guard down. As a coach, there is no better feeling than knowing we have that at our point of attack. Coaching her becomes almost as much about pace and usage management as it is skill improvement.

Q: What does their work ethic look like when no one’s watching?

A: Aaliyah does not quit. Period. She goes from one sport immediately into the next, with no off time and never a single complaint. She brings a joyful attitude with a smile no matter how tired she is and it is infectious to every other girl on the field.

Q: What makes them unique beyond the stats?

A: Her love of life in general. Aaliyah is pure joy on the field, and she is the same way in the classroom. She always has a smile and a laugh ready.

Q: What do people outside the program maybe not see about them?

A: I don’t think people realize just how genuine and good a person she is. Aaliyah loves life and the people around her fiercely. She may seem quiet to those that don’t know her, but once you get to know her you get to experience that joy and  love first-hand.
