Late heartbreak for the 2's

A strong performance from Atlanta United 2 only resulted in a 1-1 draw after Charleston's Mauro Cichero scored in the fourth minute of stoppage time on Wednesday night. Amadou Macky Diop scored for the second consecutive match to give Atlanta the lead in the second half. Highlights:

Thoughts from interim Atlanta United 2 manager Tony Annan after the match:

“I was happy with the team’s performance tonight. I think every week, every game we are getting better and better. We are starting to look like an Atlanta United team. A team where our build is getting better, our press is getting better. That’s to be expected since we’ve been working on it. The guys are taking in the information and are doing well with it. Game by Game we are getting better and I’m happy with the effort and the way we played tonight.”

Caleb Wiley was named the Man of the Match afterwards, the 15-year old left back was solid all night long. His three interceptions led the team defensively and most importantly, he demonstrated a composure not often seen from young players going up against opponents who were at least eight years older.

The 2's are headed to Birmingham to face the Legion on Saturday night. Kickoff will be at 7:30 and you can watch on ESPN+. We will have Watchalong coverage on our Twitch channel. With the next match coming up so quickly, here are Annan's thoughts on how he will prepare the squad:

“For us now it’s about recovery. We will plan tactically for the next match. We have lookied at Birmingham and see what we have to do differently. But it’s now about getting our legs back. Two days after a really tough game against a really tough opponent. We will work on getting the guys refreshed and approach the tactics a little differently. There will be a lot of video analysis while making sure they get their recovery in with the quick turnaround.”
