Manchester United’s summer tour came to end Sunday night after a 2-2 draw with Everton FC at Mercedes Benz Stadium.

Compared to the first two pre season games, United started fairly slow. Not much of a press- allowing Everton to get a feel for the game. Jordan Pickford, Everton's goalkeeper, plays out from the back as good as any keeper in world football making the press for United non-existent. Eventually the Red Devils settled into the game with Bryan Mbeumo, who made his Manchester United debut, and Bruno Fernandes leading the press.

Just around 4 minutes into the game after an Everton foul inside the United box, Bruno Fernandes receives the ball in the midfield and plays a wonderful ball to Amad down the right wing. Amad finds a cutting Matheus Cunha who glides the ball across the face of the goal but nobody was there to put it in the net. You can see those closed door tactical training sessions Ruben Amorim is leading starting to pay off.

Everton's first attempt on goal came shortly after. In the 6th minute, a Manuel Ugarte foul gave James Garner, a Manchester United Academy graduate, a free kick from about 30-35 yards out. His shot is saved by Altay Bayindir but Jake O'Brien hits the post on the follow up almost putting the Toffees on the board first.

After a long period of these teams feeling each other out, around the 17th minute, Bryan Mbeumo finds Amad who once again has space down the right wing. As the Ivorian approaches goal, he’s taken down in the box by James Tarkowski and United are awarded a penalty kick.

Manchester United’s Portuguese captain, Bruno Fernandes, steps up to the spot and buries it giving United the lead, 1-0, in the 19th minute.

You can't count Everton out.

At the 40-minute mark, Manuel Ugarte is dispossessed on the edge of United’s 18 and IIiman Ndiaye sneaks behind Bruno Fernandes at the back post and equalizes for the Toffees. After some TASTY offense at times for Ruben Amorim's side, David Moyes’ Everton are sticking around as the first half ends tied 1-1.

You saw, at times, United shift into a back four with Leny Yoro joining in on the attack. It’s just another piece of “Amorim Ball” coming to life. Yoro speaking to SDH after the game regarding the manager's confidence in him being that ball progressing centerback said, "Yes, this is something, he’s asking me. I like to do it. I do it well, I think, to continue to bring the ball forward for the midfield and strikers... this is something he’s asked me, so yes, I’ll do it."

Patrick Dorgu comes on for Bryan Mbuemo, forcing a shift in the lineup, which allows Everton an opportunity early on in the second half. But the aforementioned Yoro comes sliding in to deny Beto the chance to take the lead.

A back and forth second half garners a little excitement in the 69th minute. Bruno Fernandes carries the ball into Everton's 18 bringing 2 defenders with him leaving Mason Mount, who was subbed on not long before, unmarked. Bruno finds Mason who scores an absolute brilliant goal to give United the 2-1 lead.

Not so fast though!

After some confusion in the box, a few deflections ended in Ayden Heaven scoring an own goal to tie it up in the 75th minute. And that’s where things will stay until the final whistle- Manchester United 2, Everton 2. with United taking home yet another SUMMER trophy.

Everton have loads of work to do, I’m sure David Moyes would appreciate a little more business before the transfer window closes- publicly saying he's looking for as many as six new players on defense and the wing.

As For Manchester United, you can see some flashes of what Ruben Amorim is trying to implant into his squad. SDH caught up with the Manchester United manager postgame and he explained the importance of creating chances.

”You can perform, I don't like to say bad, but we can struggle a little bit in the game, but if you create chances you can win even that kind of game.

"If you play well, they will say that we play really well, something on the opposite side. It's the same thing, so we need to be really consistent. We already knew that we had two weeks, this will not change in two weeks, but we are better.

"Even in this game we create chances and that is really important. But of course, I think it's the perfect feeling to go back to Carrington. I think the momentum of the tour was perfect”

United are still open for business and in open pursuit for the right players to bolster their squad.

The 2025 Premier League season kickoffs for Manchester on Sunday, the 17th, at 11:30AM Eastern when they welcome Arsenal to Old Trafford. Everton begin their campaign, on the road against newly promoted Leeds United, Monday night, the 18th, at 3:00 pm Eastern time.
