Fireworks in the first Boca Juniors-River Plate Superclásico of 2021


River Plate had the better of the play overall, but Boca Juniors showed that they a difficult team to beat on Saturday night as both teams shared the honors at 2-2 at La Bombonera.

Ramón Ábila opened the scoring for Boca in the 10th minute on a brilliant cross from Emmanuel Más. Early in the second half, Boca midfielder Jorman Campuzano picked up a second yellow card for a needless incident and River took advantage. Federico Girotti equalized in the 74th minute, Rafael Santos Borré gave River the lead three minutes later. However, Carlos Tévez picked out Sebastián Villa for a Boca equalizer in the 86th minute.


Highlights:

Group A is still up for grabs with Boca and River playing one more time to conclude the Fase Campeon. Argentinos Juniors, Independiente, and Huracán all still have a chance to win the group. Group B is not settled, but Banfield have a four point lead with two matches to play and are in firm control of reaching the final. The winner of the final will book their spot in the 2021 Copa Libertadores.
