Maddie's Version: Atlanta United Grinds Out a Third Straight Win Over Sporting Kansas City

Atlanta United gets the 2-1 win over Sporting Kansas City, and that is three wins in a row now for the Five Stripes. It is huge. Coming into this one, especially off the last two matches, the whole idea was building on that momentum. The playoff picture is starting to look really interesting right now, and any point you can give yourself in a stretch like this one is massive.

You saw that mentality early. The first goal starts with Júnior Alonso and works through that entire back line, playing out of pressure and finding the right options. It moves to Cooper Sanchez who gets involved too, and it was a brilliant ball forward to find Miguel Almirón. He sends in the cross, and Tomás Jacob finishes it. It's a clinical finish. A striker's finish any day of the week. It is Elías Báez and Jacob getting forward into these moments that has really helped this team. It has made them better, and you have been seeing it.

The second goal comes off a corner. Miguel sends it in, it takes a small touch off Báez's head, and it falls right to Fafá Picault, who slots it home. 2-0. It is great to see this attack starting to build and starting to find these moments going forward, because that is something that has been lacking for a lot of this season.

Second half is where you saw the effects of the double match week start to creep in. Kansas City pulled one back, and after that it turned into a fight. Atlanta was defending for its life a little bit, dealing with a lot of fatigue across the field. It was a battle, but they got it done.

Some of the new additions are going to help with exactly that going forward. Mauricio Amaro is still working through his visa situation, but once he is in, that is huge in the midfield. It gives Atlanta so much more depth in that position, especially with more of these double match weeks still ahead. And then there is Breel Embolo. He was introduced to the fans at halftime, and he will be introduced to everyone here soon enough. He is someone who is going to bring real quality up top, and he should help unlock this team even more than what is already showing up right now.

Good things for the Five Stripes. Now it is on to Charlotte next week, a rival matchup, and Atlanta is going to want to get it done again. Try to make it four in a row.
