Ready for the Season: Atlanta United's Preseason Training Begins

by Jason Longshore

Training camp opened on the field for Atlanta United yesterday at Mercedes-Benz Stadium, the media will be inside to see today's afternoon session. I'll be there along with Dukes & Bell from 92.9 The Game who will be broadcasting live from 2-7pm.

Today, Stian Gregersen will speak to the media along with Giorgos Giakoumakis and VP Carlos Bocanegra. The first preseason game will be played on the 27th of this month on the road against the USL Championship Birmingham Legion. After a match the following weekend in Athens against Stephen Glass' Memphis 901, the team will head to Florida for three more preseason matches and training before the MLS opener in Columbus on February 24.

On the roster front, things are pretty much settled with Bartosz Slisz's signing imminent according to reports in Poland and Santiago Sosa's loan to Racing also imminent according to reports in Argentina. That would give Atlanta 3 GK's, 5 outside backs, 5 center backs, 7 central midfielders, 6 wingers, and 2 forwards. Also, there are player who can slot into different groups as well. The balance is strong with this group going into the preseason schedule. More to come on Soccer Down Here, 92.9 The Game, and more!
