Atlanta United prepares for their first Lamar Hunt US Open Cup match Tuesday night at Fifth Third Stadium where they will face off against Charlotte Independence.
The Five Stripes are coming off of a 2-1 loss against Minnesota United on Saturday in league play. They are looking to bounce back with a win at the Fraction on Tuesday.
“We have to match (their) intensity and that mentality,” said Head Coach Gonzalo Pineda today at training. “We have to start on the front foot. We have to counter that with good football, but also good attitude. We have to make a statement that we should win this game.”
Josh Cohen is expected to be the starting goalkeeper for Atlanta on Tuesday, and he has had two great matches recently with Atlanta United 2.
Against NYCFC 2 last Friday, Cohen had 5 saves during the match where the 2s tied 0-0. Atlanta United 2 earned an extra point in penalty kicks 4-2 where Cohen saved 2.
“I’m excited to get out on the field,” said Josh Cohen today at the media. “It’s different training versus the game, so I’m excited to get on the field with the guys.”
You can watch the match at the US Soccer website or listen to the match on 92.9 the Game or the Audacy app where Mike Conti and Jason Longshore will have the call!
