1969- Aston Villa defeated the Atlanta Chiefs 2-0 in a friendly at Atlanta Stadium in front of 5,841 fans. Barrie Hole and Willie Anderson were the goalscorers. Villa had been representing Atlanta in the NASL International Cup tournament for the past month.
1979- The Seattle Sounders defeated the Chiefs 3-1 at Atlanta-Fulton County Stadium. Jeff Bourne scored the lone Atlanta goal in front of 6,619 fans.
1981- The Chiefs beat the Dallas Tornado at Atlanta-Fulton County Stadium 3-1 on goals from Paul Child and Brian Kidd (2). 9,491 turned up for the match.
1981- FC Bayern of Pennsylvania defeated Atlanta Datagraphic 1-0 in the semifinals of the National Amateur Cup.
2012- The Atlanta Silverbacks lost 5-1 on the road in Tukwila, WA to the Seattle Sounders of MLS. The club had the right to host the match, but sold that to Seattle.
2018- Josef Martinez's goal earned a draw for Atlanta United on the road against the New England Revolution.
May 31 1967- The Chiefs lost 3-2 to the Philadelphia Spartans at Temple University. 414 fans showed up for the match. Peter McParland and Brian Bedford scored the goals for Atlanta.
1968- The Chiefs drew 0-0 with the New York Generals at Yankee Stadium in front of 6,225.
1970- Hertha Berlin visited Atlanta for the first time and drew 2-2 with the Chiefs at Atlanta Stadium. Dave Metchick scored both goals for Atlanta. 1,782 turned out for the match that was moved to Atlanta Stadium and an evening kickoff to accommodate the WQXI-TV broadcast of the opening match of the World Cup from Mexico.
1980- The Chiefs were blown out by the Memphis Rogues 3-0 at Atlanta-Fulton County Stadium in front of 4,527 fans.
1987- Datagraphic defeated Soccer City 2-1 to win the ADASL Division 1 championship. Adana beat ARAS for Division 2 title. The Amazing Spongeheads defeated Quicksilver in the Division 3 championship.
1997- The Ruckus notched a shootout win over the Charleston Battery at Stoney Field in South Carolina. Mo Suri scored twice for Atlanta in the match.
1999- Chris Handsor's goal in extra time led the Silverbacks to a win over New Orleans in front of 1,481 at DeKalb Memorial Stadium.
June 1
1969- Kaizer Motaung scored twice to lead the Chiefs to a NASL season-opening win over the Baltimore Bays. Everald Cummings and Mike Ash also scored for the Chiefs as they sought to defend their 1968 NASL championship. 2,582 turned up at Atlanta Stadium for the match.
1973- The Miami Toros defeated the Atlanta Apollos 2-1 at Grant Field in front of 3,855. Mick Hoban scored the Apollos' lone goal.
1979- The Chiefs lost 3-1 on the road to the Toronto Blizzard. Jeff Bourne scored Atlanta's goal at Exhibition Stadium.
1996- The Atlanta Ruckus picked up their first win of the A-League season on the road against the New York Fever. Franklin McIntosh, Chris Faklaris, and Lenin Steenkamp scored in the 3-2 win that also saw Richie Richmond red carded.
2016- Jeffrey Otoo was signed by Atlanta United.
2019- Josef Martinez had a brace for the second straight match as Atlanta United defeated the Chicago Fire at Mercedes-Benz Stadium 2-0.
June 2
1968- The Chiefs defeated the Toronto Falcons 1-0 at Atlanta Stadium in front of 7,332 on a goal from Graham Newton. It was Ball Night, every child under the age of 18 received a replica NASL soccer ball. WQXI-FM radio DJ's also played in a pregame match.
1978- Alan Hamlyn, formerly of the Chiefs and Apollos, was named head coach of the Atlanta team in the indoor Super Soccer League. The league failed to officially launch, although tryouts were held and players were signed.
1981- Brian Kidd led the Chiefs to a 6-2 rout of the Toronto Blizzard at Atlanta-Fulton County Stadium. 3,150 (the smallest crowd of the season so far) turned up on a Tuesday night. Kidd scored in his fifth straight match, tying a club record, and added his seventh and eighth goals of the season. Lawrence Chelin, David Byrne, Keith Furphy, and Paul Child also got on the scoresheet.
1995- Staale Soebye and Lenin Steenkamp paced the Ruckus to a 2-0 win at Adams Stadium against the Montreal Impact.
2001- The visiting Carolina Courage defeated the Atlanta Beat 2-0 in WUSA play at Herndon Stadium in front of 7,853.
2018- Josef Martinez had a hat trick, the Philadelphia Union had two first half red cards, and the home team won 3-0 at Mercedes-Benz Stadium.
June 3
1972- The Chiefs won 5-1 over the Miami Gatos at Miami's Junior College stadium. Danny Paton scored twice. Henry Largie, Art Welch, and Paul Child also scored for Atlanta.
1973- Paul Child scored twice, but it was not enough for the Apollos to win on the road against the Dallas Tornado. The home side took the win 4-2 in front of 5,674.
1979- Datagraphic won the National Amateur Cup semifinal in Baltimore against Casa Bianco 2-1 in 2 overtimes. It was played at Towson State’s Burdick Field.
1994- Matt Jackson had two goals to lead the Atlanta Magic to a 3-1 USISL win over the Fort Lauderdale Kicks at Roswell Stadium.
2000- Iggy Moleka's penalty was enough for the Silverbacks to defeat the visiting Hershey Wildcats at DeKalb Memorial Stadium in front of 2,120.
2017- Greg Garza's goal wasn't enough for Atlanta United as they lost 3-1 in their first visit to BC Place to face the Vancouver Whitecaps.
June 4
1967- The Chiefs had a wild 4-4 draw with the Chicago Spurs in front of 3,608 at Atlanta Stadium. Ron Newman, Brian Bedford, and Phil Woosnam (2) were the Atlanta goal scorers.
1971- Nick Papadakis, Barry Lynch, and Freddie Mwila scored for the Chiefs in a 3-2 home win over the St. Louis Stars.
1980- The Chiefs defeated the Portland Timbers 2-1 at Atlanta-Fulton County Stadium. Keith Furphy's brace led Atlanta to the win.
1995- The Ruckus were blown out on the road by the Montreal Impact 4-0.
June 5
1999- The Silverbacks lost 2-0 at DeKalb Memorial Stadium to the Hampton Roads Mariners.
